Charles Mingus was a musical genius. But he was also an expert in feline behavior modification. He trained his cat to use the toilet by gradually moving a litter box toward, and eventually over, his john. This cat potty trainer improves on the Mingus method. It's a secondary toilet seat in the middle of which sits a pan for cat litter. As your kitty gets accustomed to your bowl as its urination location, you remove inner rings, exposing the water below. I didn't think it would work either. During training, kitty risked his safety learning to poop above a bath of blue water, and I had to move a pee-soaked litter lid whenever I wanted to whiz. But after only five weeks, my cat is using the toilet without a misstep. Next task: Teach him how to flush. -- Tom Edwards
